Window-Mimicking Lamps

The Roller Shade Lights Up and Acts as a Portable Lamp for the Sun-Deprived

This roller shade and portable lamp is designed to mimic sunshine in windowless rooms. Developed by a recent graduate of China's Zhejiang University, 'Window' is a solution for people suffering from Season Affective Disorder (SAD) and improves the quality of life for others who have limited access to natural sunlight.

Industrial designer Siyu Lou created Window as part of his Elastic series. Made out of translucent material and a plastic shell, the adjustable lamp emits an ambient light that burns more brightly as more of the roller shade is pulled down. Window could also be used as a reading light or bedside lighting. Currently crowdfunding on Allocacoc, the invention is also affordable, retailing at $29.95.
