Shredded Denim

Supermodels in Ripped Jeans

This season the distressed look has been taken to the level: barely there, shredded denim fashions. During the Seattle grunge scene in the 90's, torn jeans were the fashion, but the look was symbolizing more of an "I can't afford new clothes and frankly, don't care" image. The current shredded look is much more revealing and sexy.

Kate Moss did a fantastically hot 'biker-chic' spread in the April '08 Vogue Paris, wearing frayed denim micro-shorts; the shoot confirming her career is far from over. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen was spotted at a shoot with Peruvian Mario Testino in white denim shorts covering barely more than a thong would. Even more risqué, the upcoming June/July '08 issue of Vogue Paris, features the ultra sexy Natasha Poly, modelling ragged pieces including denim jeans, jackets and shorts.

On the runways the trend was obvious in Maison Martin Margiela's collection, one example is the first image here of the white jacket with ripped jeans. Lindsay Lohan shows us the 'street' version in a frayed black denim mini skirt.
