There is something so darkly poignant and somberly nostalgic about this reunited family photo series. The work of photographer Diàna Markosian, 'Inventing My Father' is a candid series portraying the feelings of girls growing up not knowing much about their father like Markosian did.
Playing and distorting old images to create a surreal and dreamy look, the reunited family photo series was made using old photo album pictures compiled by Markosian's mother, who cropped or cut the father's face from all the images giving him a ghostly profile. The photographer hadn't seen her father since she was seven, but recently reconnected with him and they started working on this collaborative photo project together.
"When I first started the project, I wanted to love him. I wanted to feel warmth towards him, perhaps the same warmth I had when I was a child. There are moments when I look at him, and it all starts to make sense: he’s my father, and I am his daughter," says Markosian.
