'Precious Waste' Uses Garbage to Create Repurposed Jewelry

This repurposed jewelry questions the idea of value by taking what is conventionally waste and turning it into a jewelry line. 'Precious Waste' created by artist Mariana Acosta is a collection of repurposed jewelry that rethinks materialism and the wasteful nature that is prevalent in society. The artist looks at the idea of what is "precious" and challenges the conventional notion with this collection.

Acosta looked for motivation by collecting waste from wherever she could -- in order to experiment with those materials to get ideas to create. The experimentation process was trying to see what kind of metamorphosis could occur to transform this everyday junk into fashionable, contemporary jewelry. The line includes many necklaces that use objects such as pop culture buttons, wood and various other materials.
