Reds by Job Piston, a photographer living and working in Brooklyn, New York, is a photo series that employs a very unorthodox treatment. According to the artist, the striking images were "made by pressing light-sensitive darkroom paper to the surface of a glowing laptop screen, then, dipping the pixels into a chemical bath." The results are hazy red images steeped in provocativeness and intimacy.
Currently on display at the California Museum of Photography, Reds by Job Piston explores alternate ways to embrace the medium of photography, which engages its audience in new ways. Piston elaborates, "All the images in 'Reds' are staged for the public, but there’s very little left of the person’s identity there. We’re quite literally looking at a fossil of the computer screen."
