Rothy's, which previously created footwear made from recycled plastic water bottles, recently launched a collection of stylish recycled plastic handbags. As the US shoe company is familiar with using recycled materials, the bags are made with the usual threading, as well as a new fibre made from post-consumer plastics that's said to be sourced "within 30 miles of coastlines and marine environments." By combining its rPET thread with the new material, Rothy's describes a "market-first for marine plastics."
The bags, made from ocean-bound plastic, are durably constructed and are 3D knitted to create soft yet structured designs. While some of the machine-washable styles take the form of totes and pouches, others are crossbody and handbag styles that are available in a range of colors.
