Brooklyn-based Korean artist Ran Hwang has managed to create art pieces that pay tribute to an iconic Japanese flower. The cherry blossom, also known as Sakura in Japanese, is a metaphor and symbol for the ephemeral quality of life, its transience and beauty. The art pieces are modeled into recreated cherry blossom trees using only buttons, beads and pins.
The artist assembled the beaded artwork that resembles the iconic flower into a series of oval and circular frames. Each piece is assembled by hand by Hwang, mulling over and pinning hundreds and thousands of beads, buttons and pins to create the floral compositions.
The result is an intermix of structural modernity set against a backdrop of age old symbolism, that is the cherry blossom.
