The Qiandao Lake in Zhejiang, China was the Home of Two Ancient Citie

The Qiandao lake in Zhejiang, China is the home of two ancient cities, and is artificially made. This man-made lake was created in 1959 when the Xin’anjiang Reservoir was constructed, and it is takes up an 573 square km area. What makes this flooded valley so distinct is that there are 1,078 islands within the lake, and this valley is where two prosporous ancient cities lied thousands of years ago.

Shi Cheng was built in 621 AD during the Tang dynasty, and He Cheng was built in 208 AD in the Han dynasty. These two cities were completely forgotten about until 2001 when some divers saw found city that was still intact. These fantastic images of the lake and islands are breathtaking because the water is clear and each island is full of greenery.
