Qian Jiang is attempting to make recharging batteries faster and more efficient with his rechargeable wind-up batteries. Jiang's design features a built-in hand crank that recharges the batteries via kinetic energy.

The batteries can be recharged to 45 percent power in 5 minutes and 100 percent power in 20. The great thing about these batteries is that they are also compatible with conventional battery chargers in case your hands start to get tired.

Battery chargers are constantly being redesigned to be faster and more efficient, but maybe it is time we start redesigning our batteries instead. Designs like Qian Jiang's just make sense, as they nearly eliminate the need for electricity-consuming wall chargers. Hopefully a big-time battery company will take notice of this design and take it from concept to reality.
