The Prison Series Documents the Road to the Penitentiary Games

Christophe Negrel's 'Prison' series documents the physical preparation of inmates participating in The Penitentiary Games.

With the help of a sports psychology student and the prison games coordinator, Negrel was able to gain access into the confines of several prisons in Nice, Tarascon, Salon La Vanetine and Grasse. Negrel's series is refreshing because it focuses on something other than the prisoner's daily lives; instead, it documents a collective goal. Only those who have exhibited good behavior are chosen to participate in the games, an activity that is intended for prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The photographs, which are available for both staff and inmates to see, show the trust and freedom the men are given, not to mention a unbridled love of the game.
