Grocery-Bagging Robots

Stanford University's Incredible PR2 Robot is an Android Checkout Cle

Stanford University’s robotics department has whipped up another creation straight from the pages of a sci-fi novel – a PR2 robot that has the ability to scan and bag your groceries.

This isn’t the first time a team of researchers has used a robot to complete mundane human tasks. Last year, researchers at tech company Willow Garage created a robot that had the ability to fetch and open beers and the ability to differentiate them. It also had the ability to play pool, and search through crowded offices to find you a power outlet.

The PR2 in this demonstration scans your products with precision, but may have a hard time bagging your fruits and vegetables without bruising them. Practicality aside, the development of the PR2 is an incredible and exciting view into the future.
