For the Community, By the Community Aims to Boost Hygiene in Hospitals

For the Community, By the Community is a portable hand washing cart designed to make hygiene practices more efficient in health care facilities. The handwashing system was designed by Lagos-based company nmbello Studio in response to a recent survey of care professionals in Lagos, Nigeria. The survey found that health care workers lacked enough time to be able to walk to and from sinks in fixed locations.

To solve this issue, the portable hand washing cart offers contactless hand washing thanks to its modular designed. The system is powered by a battery and made from "easily obtained parts and materials and designed explicitly for local manufacture." nmbello currently has two prototypes being texted in hospital wards, with a plan to produce six more in the coming months.
