These porcelain sculptures by Nuala O'Donovan are hand-built to resemble natural fractal patterns. Inspired by objects found in nature -- such as coral, teasel flowers and pinecones -- the Irish artist sculpts the intricate pieces in a way that reflects the patterns and the natural irregularities as well.
Photographed by Sylvain Deleu and Janice O'Connell, the artistic ceramics utilize aspects of fractal geometry in their form. The artist explains her hopes that her work "evokes the transitory quality of living organisms, combining traces of history, the present and the future, in the patterns that make up their surfaces and forms."
