Cloud-Streamed Videogame Systems

The Sony PlayStation Now Just Launched at CES 2014

Sony’s PlayStation Now cloud gaming system is about to make some waves. Sony’s announcement of a stream-based cloud system is showing the other companies it is (no pun intended) not playing games this time around.

With the demise of companies like Blockbuster and the rise of cloud-based sharing and storage, Sony’s announcement is huge. The premise of the system is that the cloud service will host a library of PlayStation titles and users who subscribe or rent games will be able to have access to these games. Simple enough to some, but the power behind it is insane.

One of the bigger things about this though is with the technology it will allow Sony to give backward compatibility to a system that shouldn’t have it. Not only will this work on the gaming consoles but PlayStation Now will also provide content to televisions and other devices. This also puts Sony ahead of its competitors who still don’t offer that kind of flexibility.
