Kathy Shorr Takes Photos of Best Friends for Her Latest Series

New York-based photographer Kathy Shorr's latest series, a project which captures photos of best friends, started off kind of by accident.

By chance, Shorr photographed a pair of good friends and noticed how similar they looked as they posed alongside each other. She immediately became nostalgic, remembering the powerful friendships she had in her youth and young adulthood. With 'BFF,' Shorr wanted to represent the time in a young woman's life where her best friend is less like a friend, and more like an extension of herself.

Shorr approached girls in the New York City area over a period of two years, noting that it was easy to identify pairs of best friends once she started looking for them. The girls would adopt each other's hair, makeup and clothing style, mirroring each other in their appearance and mannerisms.
