Greek Art by Eugenio Recuenco

Usually, sculptures try to emulate and capture the human form. Artist Eugenio Recuenco reverses these laws of art by recreating Greek sculptures using lenses and real human models.

I have always been fascinated by Greek mythology and art, and the sculptures of the Parthenon pediments are a great example of this fine art. Recuenco recreates these sculptures using live models and great art direction by himself and Eric Dover.

With excellent make-up by Lewis Amarante, Recuenco captured the essence of these sculptures. This goes to show the artistry and beauty of the original sculptures, which successfully turn cold stone into exciting art.

According to AncientGreek.org, "The sculptures of the Parthenon pediments are some of the finest examples of classical Greek art. The figures are sculpted in natural movement with bodies full of vital energy that bursts through their flesh, as the flesh in turn bursts through their thin clothing. The thin chitons allow the body underneath to be revealed as the focus of the composition. The distinction between gods and humans is blurred in the conceptual interplay between the idealism and naturalism bestowed on the stone by the sculptors."
