Pokémon's New Pheromosa is Inspired the Name of a New Insect

Pokémon's seventh generation features the new bug-type beast that is dubbed Pheramosa, which was first seen in Pokémon Sun & Moon Ultra. It has since been seen through the franchise in anime, manga, and games. Notably, this was a focus after a species of cockroach that was discovered in Singapore, seen with similar features as the animated version including long antennas and legs, along with hooded wings as well.

Two entomologists Foo Maoshend and Cristian Lucanas studied the bug and recognized the similarities. Due to this, the team has drawn inspiration from the animated series and officially named the insect 'Nocticola pheromosa.' Notably, this is not the first time that a new species have been named after the Pokémon series.
