Petting Zoo Pavilions

These Intricate Buildings Form an Architectural Ensemble

These petting zoo pavilions were built in a public German park and were meant to double interesting visual sculptures. Architects behind the project wanted to make sure that the three distinct pavilions worked together to create a unified ensemble. One of the ways this was done was through the use of the same birch wood material.

Birch wood was not only used for aesthetic purposes but wood is also a good material that cannot inadvertently poison the animals. Also, due to possible wear and tear, all timber joints were constructed to be easily replaced.

The site was built for the 2016 State Horticulture Show, and replaced an aging animal enclosures that the area once housed. The new petting zoo pavilions strike the perfect balance between safety for visitors as well as sustainable and comfortable space for the animals.
