People have been trying to translate sounds into movement for quite some time, but Swiss art group Cod.Act's latest interactive installation entitled Pendulum Choir is taking this age old compulsion of human curiosity to new breathtaking visual heights.
Led by André and Michel Décosterd, Pendulum Choir functions by propping up a chorus of 9 A Capella singers on tilting hydraulic jacks. The choir sways the singing members in unison movements based on the sounds and story they produce as a whole. Ranging from repetitive sounds, abstract noises and lyrically inspired narrative sounds, the Pendulum Choir creates a musical performance using the actual bodies of these singers.
Meant to be a "robotic allegory where the technological complexity and the lyricism of the moving bodies combine into a work with Promethean accents," Cod.Act's installation promises to bring the live sensory musical experience we've been searching for.
