Michael Massaia Tributes the History of Payphones with His New Project

New Jersey-based creative Michael Massaia lensed a payphone photography series in tribute of the mode of communication that's become obsolete for most of today's cellphone users.

In an effort to preserve their memory, the American photographer captured shots of the many booths that are scattered throughout his home country. Each of the images is filtered in black and white, which gives the whole series a slightly eerie aesthetic. This is enhanced by Massaia's extended use of shadows as well, as the payphones are seemingly enveloped in a veil of mysterious darkness.

What's most interesting about the payphone photography series is the sense of character each booth has however, with remnants of human interaction left behind in many of them.
