Paula Strewn Revamps Boring Baby Helmets

Artist Paula Strawn beautifies babies’ corrective helmets. Her customized designs vary from Winnie the Pooh to Starry Starry Night.

The helmets help babies who have flat head syndrome. The condition is not permanent but the corrective helmets are not fun as they only come in plain white. The artist believes that people look at babies in helmets differently like they assume something is wrong with them and avoid eye contact. Strawn’s revamped helmets will give babies a healthy self-esteem by providing them with a multitude of compliments for their wearable art. She hopes the beautified helmets will also encourage viewers and parents to have conversations about this treatable condition.

She painted her first helmet for her friend’s granddaughter. She now runs her own business Lazardo Art where she paints and sells her helmets to families in the U.S.
