It is not everyday that an artist comes around and compares a sacred part of Christmas to a sex toy; but that is exactly what Paul McCarthy did. And the acclaimed Los Angeles artist paid for it, unfortunately. Punched in the face repeatedly after erecting this art installation, simply dubbed 'Tree,' in Paris, France, just outside the Place Vendôme, Paul McCarthy was thankfully not seriously hurt.
The assailant was enraged over not only over the fact that Paul McCarthy's sculpture resembled a butt plug, but that the artist himself was not French. Paul McCarthy went on to say, "But it is an abstract work. People may be offended if they want to refer to [it as a] plug, but, for me, it is more of an abstraction." That wasn't the case for his attacker.
