Aram Bartholl has created an art installation currently touring across Europe that can only be described as password art, as it puts 4.7 million LinkedIn user passwords on display.
Back in 2012, the networking site LinkedIn.com was hacked resulting in the loss of its entire user database. Parts of the database was decrypted and as a result, 4.7 million user passwords were leaked. What invariably became a public relations nightmare for LinkedIn turned into a work of password art for Aram Bartholl who collected all 4.7 million passwords, sorted them alphabetically and housed them in eight hardcover book volumes of 800 pages each. He encourages people to come and look up their own passwords.
Thankfully, Bartholl was kind enough to not include any usernames along with the passwords.
