Paper Creature Installations

Ai WeiWei Creates Stunning Sculptures for Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche

The work of famed Chinese artist Ai WeiWei is now hanging from the ceiling of a Parisian department store, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, in the form of incredibly paper creatures. With bamboo skeletons and white surfaces, they float in a ghostly manner, evoking a sense of the fantastical. It's hard not to stare in awe of them.

Dubbed Er Xi (Child’s Play), the paper creatures "come from popular legends of the Antique China, including the epic tales of Shan Hai Jing we tell to children since at least 2000 years," explains Fubiz. Incredible detailed for their size and the material used, the paper creatures bring a magical presence to the department store -- a space that is not typically associated with such a singular ambiance.
