The 'Airbus LOOP' Aims to Offer Comfortable Long-Term Stays In Space

Multinational aerospace giant Airbus is introducing the world to the 'Airbus LOOP,' a multi-functional and highly versatile orbital module that envisages providing safe and comfortable environs for astronauts to live in during prolonged stays in outer space.

This orbital module is set to offer a trio of levels, one of which is dedicated to accommodation for astronauts, one of which revolves around scientific work, and one level that aims to offer a gravity-infused habitat so that astronauts can get some respite from weightless existence, which is known to have deleterious effects on the body. However, Airbus states that the levels can be designed and customized for different scenarios and missions.

Airbus points out that the 'Airbus LOOP' aims to represent the next big step in space habitation considering that the use of the International Space Station has exceeded its original envisioned lifetime.

"The Airbus LOOP is designed to make long-term stays in space comfortable and enjoyable for its inhabitants, while supporting efficient and sustainable operations at the same time," Airbus stated. "It builds on everything that has been learnt over the decades and fully exploits the potential of tomorrow’s technologies in order to best support humanity’s future in Space: In Low-Earth or Lunar Orbit, or on long-term missions to Mars."
