Solid Red Multimedia Installation

The Scarlet House

In Sweden, on a very small island called Stakholmen, sits this hauntingly beautiful scarlet house.

The intense Monopoly Hotel red house has a footbridge connecting it to the shore. Not a plastic mock-up though, this is a proper, full-scale wooden house, in traditional Swedish holiday cottage style.

"The house is a multimedia installation entitled Fårjaglov, (‘Shallwedance’) by a Malmö-based artist called Peter Johansson," according to Spamula. "Apparently, on approaching the house, one is supposed to hear the strains of ABBA’s music emanating from within, intended, I think, as a sarcastic comment on a certain conformist ‘prefabricated’ sense of Swedishness: on Sunday morning, however, it was silent."
