Rising Sea Level Housing

The Conceptual 'Ocean Community' Forms Offshore Colonies

The conceptual 'Ocean Community' is a housing solution for coastal cities to help offer inhabitants an alternative place to call home. Designed by Poland-based Wojciech Morsztyn, the sea-based housing could be positioned around 800 meters offshore to let inhabitants easily commute into the city to lead a normal life before heading back home to their floating abode.

The modern dwellings are imagined in Singapore in the year 2035 to combat against rising sea levels by helping citizens to escape the chaos of the urban environment in favor of smaller, ocean-based colonies. The vessels harness the power of sun, water and wind for energy, and feature an elegant design that would maximize views of the cityscape and sea.

The conceptual 'Ocean Community' is the winner of the 2019 Red Dot Design Concept Award.
