Soaring French Sky Gardens

The Occitanie Tower Will Be the City of Toulouse's First Skyscraper

By 2022 the city of Toulouse, France, will be home to the Occitanie Tower. The skyscraper is expected to stand 492 feet and will integrate plants and trees into its design. The firm behind the project is Studio Libeskind and the person who incorporated the greenery into the structure is landscape architect Nicolas Gilsou. Gilsou aptly describes the design as a "ribbon," with said ribbon stretching from the street to the top of the Occitanie Tower.

In addition to being a sky garden the Occitanie Tower will also feature office and commercial spaces, a Hilton hotel and residential units. It will be Toulouse's first skyscraper and could serve as a model for future architectural firms to follow. Cities around the world are pumping the brakes on skyscraper development. Buildings like the Occitanie Tower prove that new developments don't just have to be spirals or columns of glass and steel. They can also act as parks of sorts, offering visitors a unique combination of nature and an unbeatable view.
