Augmented Reality Transit Maps

An App Lets You Interact With NYC Subway Map Data Visualization

If you are likely to geek out over an NYC subway map, then a new app could be your new best friend. Tunnel Vision NYC allows you to turn the subway maps into interactive data visualizations that tell stories about transportation, population and neighborhoods.

Urbanism and computer vision nerds will surely be rejoicing. And at the very least, this app could make your wait for the next train a little more exciting. By pointing your smartphone at any MTA map, the app uses augmented reality to place these stories on top of the NYC subway map. It uses six different data sets to do this.

Tunnel Vision NYC's creator Bill Lindmeier developed the app for his graduate thesis at NYU's ITP program.
