A Recent NYC Gun Bust Occurred After Being Tipped Off by Instagram

NYC gun bust history was made on August 19th when the New York Police Department arrested 19 people after being tipped off by Instagram. The popular photo-sharing app led to authorities seizing over 250 illegal firearms in the city's biggest bust ever.

The investigation started over a year ago, when police suspected Brooklyn-based rapper Matthew Best was selling narcotics out of his recording studio. Best's Instagram account raised additional flags as he posted pictures of guns and large wads of cash while YouTube videos further alluded to gun sales.

An undercover cop was allegedly able to purchase around $75,000 worth of guns from two of the gun runners. During a recent press conference, Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan described the situation as being "both horrifying and comical."

This provides yet another reason to be diligent and careful about one posts on social media. Forget your boss, the fuzz could get on your case.
