The Desertscraper Revitalizes Arid Desert as It Rolls Across It

The Desertscraper is a connected series of titanic nomadic farms that rolls across enormous tracts of arid land in order to prevent man-made desertification. The concept, designed by architects Yungi Jung and Jeong Gwang Hwang, is a response to the 12 million hectares of land that are lost each year as deserts in rural areas expand.

The five nomadic farms within the Desertscraper use greenhouses and "plant pot modules" to grow hardy, location-specific greenery year round. As the cylindrical unit rolls across the desert, these nomadic farms plant their output behind them.

On the front side, the massive structure will break up sere, hard-packed soil while gathering any dead plant and animal matter that would otherwise contribute to CO2 in the environment. This waste will then be used as compost in the Desertscraper's farms.

The concept was designed to tackle desertification in China.
Trend Themes
1. Nomadic Farming - Develop nomadic farming technology that allows for location-specific greenery to grow year-round in arid areas on moveable structures.
2. Sustainable Agriculture - Create sustainable agriculture practices that prevent desertification and use waste as compost for farming in order to reduce CO2 emissions in arid areas.
3. Connected Farming - Design connected farming systems that can move and expand across large tracts of land in response to desertification in rural areas.
Industry Implications
1. Agriculture Industry - Develop new technologies for sustainable farming practices that address the issue of desertification in arid regions while reducing environmental impact.
2. Architecture Industry - Incorporate sustainable and nomadic design principles into architecture to create mobile and flexible structures that can combat environmental issues such as desertification.
3. Environmental Industry - Create innovative solutions to address the growing problem of desertification, including technologies and strategies for sustainable agriculture, waste management, and carbon reduction in arid regions.
