The Leviathan update brings 'Roguelike' gameplay to the title, which is to say that players will gain access to a new game mode where a single death resets their progress as they try and make it further each time they enter the "loop."
Leviathan will be a community-focused Roguelike, though, as each player on the game will work together to uncover the mystery of the loop. As players continue to progress as far as they can, die, and reset, more information will be revealed to the entire community. At the end of the Leviathan event, when players finally emerge victoriously, they will receive the Leviathan itself, a giant alien creature that serves as a living Frigate-class airship.
