Visually Light Compact Furniture

Nine X Nine by D Calen Knauf Addresses Furnishing Small Spaces

As the designer points out, 81 square feet is a very small space to live in; the Nine X Nine collection makes such close quarters much more bearable. Commissioned by a Vancouver client who has repurposed old buildings to create single occupant dwellings, Canadian designer D Calen Knauf has created a system of furniture that would encourage people to stay longer in each suite. The current length of stay is three months.

Visually light, the Nine X Nine collection adheres to a wireframe-style construction so as to make things seem less packed and haphazard. Made out of locally sourced fir wood, the pieces are not only extremely affordable, as per the client's request, but also very modular. For instance, drawers for the standing wardrobe could easily be used as standalone storage.
