Kanye West's hit single 'Gold Digger' takes a terrifying turn in Nil Hoppenot's 'Life Insurance' editorial for The Ones2Watch Issue #18. Fitting perfectly with the issue's theme, "Noir," the photoshoot tells the chilling tale of a young bride ridding herself of her older husband, presumably to cash in on the insurance money.
Though the concept of the shoot might reflect a negative stereotype, it makes for an incredibly compelling series and is ultimately done in a tongue-in-cheek manner, following the issue's dedication to "the disaffected, to femme fatales and loners, and to the dark, fascinating and strange." What I find to be so captivating and, at the same time, incredibly haunting, is how Hoppenot follows models Mae Lapres and Hervé Hoppenot through various stages of their relationship, ending with Mae standing at the foot of a lake where (the viewer is to assume) her fictional husband will meet his end.
