Artist Niklas Roy creates a computer made of Rubber Bands and Cardboar

This handmade computer by German artist Niklas Roy can actually plot computer graphics and be programmed to perform complicated tasks. Amazingly, the creation, which looks like something from a Michel Gondry film, operates on a series of cardboard and rubber bands.

The kitsch 'cardboard computers and plotters' creation was invented by the artist as part of his Electronic media class at the School of Art and Design in Offenbach, Germany. Niklas Roy and his class went about the project to show how to build a working computer from scratch, using only elastic bands, cardboard and string. Students were able to play a number of fun racing games on the DIY computer and draw some low resolution vector graphics.
