Modernizing Movie Artwork

These Neverending Story Sketches Are Beautiful and Sinister

The Neverending Story was adapted to film almost 30 years ago in 1984, but one artist has re-imagined the film as a modern cinematic creation. Nicolas Franceour created a series of drawings of what the characters would like rendered with modern technology and costuming.

The results are beautiful, and at times a little frightening. Falkor is a ferocious dragon-like furry beast, rather than the friendly puppet of the original film. The Child-Like Empress looks something like a fairy with her gown of white and her bejeweled crown and jacket. The Rockbiter looks like a monster out of Pacific Rim, and Atreyu has a fierce tribal touch to his appearance.

The Neverendng Story is a cult classic film and these modern characterizations give it a new kind of wild and frightening beauty that enhances its already wonderful story.
