Seiko is set to release its latest limited-edition Prospex 1970 Diver timepiece that pays tribute to Japanese explorer Naomi Uemura. The design model of this timepiece follows the model that Naomi Uemura wore in 1970. Naomi Uemura was the world’s first mountaineer to personally climb Mont Blanc, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Aconcagua, Mt. Everest, and Alaska’s Denali.
Seiko honors Naomi Uemura by adding design features to the achievements he made. The texture dial of the timepiece features the scenery of Mont Blanc. As for the watch dial, it displays the rocky surfaces and icy silhouette of the mountain. Lumibrite is also placed upon the indices, hour, and minute hands, allowing legibility in dark conditions. Furthermore, the timepiece comes in a classic 44mm stainless steel build with hints of blue on the bezel. The words "The Naomi Uemura Limited Edition" is engraved on the case back, and the batch numbers display its limited availability.
There are only 500 units available, and the timepiece will be released in May for around $2,900.
