My Friend Max Hate Exposes the Dark Side of Online Influence

'My Friend' Max Hate' is the latest hard-hitting campaign from White Ribbon, spotlighting the alarming impact of misogynistic online content on young, impressionable boys. Released on Safer Internet Day, the three-minute short film warns of the insidious nature of the 'manosphere,' an online space where hateful ideologies against women thrive.

The film follows a vulnerable teen who, grappling with insecurities around masculinity, falls under the toxic influence of a puppet-like figure named Max Hate. This character, masked as an online influencer, slowly guides the teen into adopting misogynistic views -- highlighting how easily young minds can be manipulated.

Created in partnership with Toronto-based agency Bensimon Byrne, the campaign aims to raise awareness about how dangerous online spaces fuel gender-based violence. White Ribbon, now in its 34th year, continues its mission of ending gender-based violence by encouraging healthier interpretations of masculinity and fostering allyship.

Accompanying the film is an educational hub and a TikTok account, @max_hate_, designed to help young people recognize and resist harmful online narratives.
