The Mute Light has a base, a stand, a lampshade an extending cable, just as the majority of table lamps do. And while it may satisfy those common criteria, it cannot be denied that the little light fixture does not take a typical appearance.
It seems as though Juho Pykäläinen was inspired by the form of a tube or a pipe, beginning with this sort of form and manipulating it to have it better serve its illuminating purpose. A large section looks to have been cut away from the sides, leaving a long tab that could be bent to sculpt a stable bottom. The lightbulb is tucked out of sight beneath the Mute Light's opaque aluminum lampshade. This dampens direct beams -- a feature that potentially influenced its deadened name.
