DIY Multi-Layered Coffee Tables

Tato Architects Create Furnishings That Consumers Have to Assemble

Under the direction of Japanese architect Yo Shimada, Tato Architects creates a collection of multi-layered coffee tables that embrace DIY culture. The project is named 'Utsuri' and is commissioned by Hornbach which is a German DIY warehouse.

Consumers will be able to purchase the materials for Tato Architects' multi-layered coffee tables at a cost no greater than 150 euros. The assembly following would require a book with instructions that is sold and published by Hornbach. The end product boasts three interconnected surfaces made from plywood that can be shifted and reconfigured.

With an abundance of design styles, the multi-layered coffee tables can be built to fit rooms that differ in space. This goes one level beyond the classic built-it-yourself model that IKEA has popularized in the market and equips the collection with a higher sense of customization.
