Parsons School of Design grad Angela Luna recently released a line of multifunctional outerwear that is intended to be worn by refugees. When refugees flee their home country, they often leave with little more than the clothes on their backs. These utilitarian garments are meant to clothe refugees and help them better protect themselves from the elements.
Luna's new collection is called 'Crossing the Boundary' and it was inspired by the current Syrian refugee crisis. As Luna explains, "I wanted to create something that could help. I had no idea what it was going to be or how it would turn out, but I thought 'this is a thesis.'" As a result, she created a series of unisex, one-size-fits-all pieces that could serve as a form of shelter and help to protect refugees from the elements. All of the pieces are designed to serve a multitude of different purposes, making them ideal for refugees travelling in harsh environments.
