A Story About Good Intentions and Unexpected Cravings

Have you ever come across something that totally distracted you from everything else going on in your day? Well, that's exactly what happened to me yesterday. I was at the convenience store, flowers in hand, picking up a Mother's Day card when my eyes locked onto it. I stood there dumbfounded while all others thoughts fell silent. I knew exactly what it was and the temptation inside: silky milk chocolate, creamy caramel and nutty nougat. Resistance was futile. Totally taken by the craving, I bought it and made a bee-line for the car.

Once home, I tossed aside the flowers and card, plopping myself down on the couch. Staring at the little slice of heaven in my hand, it felt like I had blinders on; nothing else in my world mattered at that moment. I tore the wrapper off and sunk my teeth into the first bite. That…that first bite: it sent shivers down my spine. A wave of delight crashed over me. A thousand small tingles jockeyed for position in my mouth as the taste of milk chocolate, caramel and nougat set in. I was completely fixated as I closed my eyes and wandered down the rabbit hole of deliciousness. I wondered why I waited so long to treat myself like this.

After an unspecified amount of time I opened my eyes and was shocked to find that not only had I finished the chocolate bar, but I was also late for Mother's Day dinner across town. I picked up the flowers, card, and rushed out the door while dialing my mom's cell in one hand and wiping off the reason for my tardiness with the other.

"Are you there already?" I nervously asked. "Ok. I'm on my way. Sorry, I was eating a Milky Way."
