Design studio Morrama has teamed up with 3D manufacturing company Batch.Works to introduce Kibu, a pair of colorful headphones designed for children to assemble, take apart, and repair on their own. Targeted at kids aged 5 to 11, Kibu headphones aim to combine play, education, and hands-on learning, encouraging young users to explore the mechanics behind the device.
The headphones are made with recycled polylactic acid (PLA) and sourced from agricultural waste for the rigid components, while softer elements, like the headband cushion, use thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Each part snaps together easily without screws or glue, making it safe for children to construct and experiment with.
Every component is crafted using fused deposition modelling (FDM), a 3D-printing method that builds the pieces layer by layer, leaving subtle textures visible and highlighting the manufacturing process. Kibu headphones are printed on demand, reducing waste and energy consumption while demonstrating ethical production practices.
