Pelli Clarke & Partners Designs the Mori JP Tower

American studio Pelli Clarke & Partners completed the Mori JP Tower, which is the tallest skyscraper in Japan. This is part of the Azabudai Hills development in the city and it measures 330 meters tall. It is in Tokyo's Minato ward and is made with the help of Japanese developer Mori Building to create a more accessible green public space. It has a curved facade that tapers when closer to the ground and at the peak.

Hirsch notes, "We shaped the building so it begins to taper to meet the sky and create a crown as a silhouette, which becomes a character recognizable to the city. We also shaped it to taper coming down so that when it finally reaches the ground, it becomes manageable in terms of proportion. The second thing we did was to take this building and to crenelate it in the center of each facade, creating four bundles. It makes the building more slender and graceful."
