Slatted Wooden Bakeries

This Montreal Bakery Features a Latticed Design

Local studio Naturehumaine designed the interior of the Au Pain Doré, a Montreal bakery and coffee shop.

The designers injected a feeling of warmth to the monochrome space by using wooden planks. The contemporary look was inspired by the lattice design found in wooden bread baskets. Though simple in concept, the design adds layers of dynamism to the space. Inside, a system of wooden beams lines the space, with vertical elements regularly interrupting. Gaps are left between beams to ensure proper ventilation. The gaps also reveal the black surface above, effectively breaking up the look.

One wall in the main space is lined with timber shelves, the material which was also used to make up the tops and panels of the serving counter.
