Korean architecture and design firm Studio Koossino has designed a series of holiday homes called the Moai Pension buildings for visitors of a botanical garden, located outside of Seoul in Gapyeong County.
The six yellow holiday homes were inspired by Moai stone statues on Easter Island in Chile. Situated against a hillside, the Moai Pension buildings all share the same visual aesthetic, a concrete base with a bigger volume in the upper section. The structures line up against each other to face the same direction, similar to the Moai stone statues.
"This project has arranged similar mass on an inclined plane, creating a sense of place by emphasizing repeating images," says architect Jae Hwan Lee of Studio Koossino.
The vibrant upper story provides as a sharp contrast against the green hills, allowing them to stand out to visitors and residents in the area.
