Distraction-Free Minimalist Retreats

The Yangzhou Resort is Sure to Give You a Much Needed Break

Architecture firm Neri & Hu were commissioned with a challenging task to create a 20-room boutique hotel for a minimalist retreat. The hardship of the building process was contained in the varying natural site, which was "dotted with small lakes and a handful of existing structures." Neri & Hu worked around this by creating narrow spaces that didn't compromise aesthetic and comfort, as well as appropriating existing frameworks for the Yangzhou resort.

The Chinese minimalist retreat offers an adequate and peaceful break from fast paced environments and digital media to the urban dweller. The building features only necessary elements for relaxation, bare walls, as well as a perforated brick facade that fosters a rather calming form of light penetration.
