Axel Mellinger Travels 26,000 Miles for Panoramic View of the Night Sky

Axel Mellinger is one dedicated astronomer. Mellinger created this panorama of the night sky with 3,000 photos, and nearly as many hours in front of the computer. Milky Way montages like this don’t come along very often, considering the amount of work involved.

According to Mellinger, "this panorama image shows stars 1,000 times fainter than the human eye can see, as well as hundreds of galaxies, star clusters and nebulae." Milky Way montages are worth the effort, then, considering the detail with which we can now view the universe. Also check out images from other Space.com users above.
