The Mian Xin Cheng development by SPARK Architects is now complete, and it features a facade that's pleated in parts. While this may sound more like something appropriate for the fashion industry, it has worked surprisingly well on this building design.
The building "boasts pleated and woven façades that both resolve a variety of practical issues, and reference the textile market that formerly operated on the site," states DesignBoom. Being able to actually incorporate this previous use of the building into the outside of the design is quite the feat, and it turned out very well. SPARK did a good job of having the top half develop into more of a smooth surface, which accentuates this bottom section even more.
