Camera-Toting Trucks

The Mercedes-Benz Antos 1824L Truck is Equipped With 360-Degree Cameras

British supermarket chain Sainsbury's has launched a truck equipped with 360-degree cameras -- the Mercedes Benz Antos 1824L. The initiative was launched to improve cycling safety -- according to the London Cycling Campaign, trucks are involved in over half of all cyclist deaths in the Greater London area despite the fact that they make up only 5% of traffic.

This Mercedes Benz Antos truck is fitted with proximity sensors along the sides to alert the driver of the presence of cyclists, and is also designed with low side guards for cyclists' safety. However the crucial and most impressive component of the truck is its 360-degree video technology, which gives the driver a comprehensive view of the surrounding road.

The truck is one of only seven such trucks produced by Mercedes-Benz, with another nine on the way.
